The battle of Anfield

Undoubtedly, the biggest match of the weekend is Saturday’s Premier League tie between Liverpool and Chelsea at Anfield. This game follows Liverpool’s 1-0 loss at Real Madrid and the team have disappointed many this season, lying seventh in the Premier League. This follows the controversy surrounding Reds manager Brendan Rodgers for fielding a weakened side against the Galacticos, many believing in preparation for Saturday’s crucial game against Chelsea.

The visitors will remain top regardless of the result against Liverpool, and could potentially to extend their lead at the top the table to at least six points if both Southampton and Manchester City fail to win over the weekend. Chelsea also underwhelmed in the Champions League this week after drawing 1-1 at Slovenian Champions NK Maribor and will need to improve drastically if they are to beat Liverpool.

West Ham go into the Premier League weekend on a high after securing the Premier League manager (Sam Allardyce) and player of the month (Diafra Sakho.), following wins against Champions Manchester City, newly promoted Queens Park Rangers and Burnley. West Ham will be looking to continue their good run against Aston Villa, who have lost the previous six games.

Manchester United will also be looking to gain their first win in over a month against struggling Crystal Palace at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are currently tenth in the Premier League after draws against Chelsea and West Brom and a loss against rivals City in their last three games. The pressure is on both Louis van Gaal and Neil Warnock for their teams to produce a good performance and result on Saturday.
